Batgirl: J.K. Simmons Opens Up About Returning As Commissioner Gordon

One of the upcoming DCEU films that are in the works is Batgirl, which will mark the debut of Barbara Gordon in the franchise. Little is still known about the plot details, but it will feature the return of J.K. Simmons' Commissioner Gordon who we last saw in both versions of Justice League.

In a recent interview with Josh Horowitz in the Happy Sad Confused Podcast, Simmons finally spoke for the first time regarding his much-anticipation comeback on the role of Commissioner Gordon in Batgirl and gave a little tease about what we should expect on the film.

"I was completely flabbergasted they came back to me recently and wanted me to be Commissioner Gordon again and have it be a more significant role. I’m looking forward to it," he said. "I think I’m going to get on the horn to [Leslie Grace] and the directors in the next couple of days and do little preliminary rehearsals. They start very soon and I jump on board sometime in January in Glasgow which is a wonderful place to shoot it as it’s Gothic."

He continued, "I’m excited to be the once and future Jim Gordon. I had a long discussion with the guys about how we want to portray him. It’s a really interesting take on introducing Batgirl and fleshing Jim Gordon out."

It sounds like Simmons is very excited to return to the role just like us. A lot of fans were surprised when the report came a few months ago that the actor will play Commissioner Gordon in the film. Given that he played the character in Justice League, it poses a question if the film is connected to the early iteration of the DCEU and if there's a chance that we might see Ben Affleck appear as Batman. Directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah have confirmed that the Caped Crusader will be making an appearance, but they didn't say which version will it be.

It's also interesting to point out that Simmons mentioned that they are going to shoot the film in Glasgow, where The Batman was also filmed. Although it has been mentioned so many times before that The Batman is separate on its own universe so there's a chance that Batgirl might only be filming there because it is a location that the filmmakers prefer and convenient for them.
