Jeopardy! Season 39 will be like no other with all the big plans its cast and crew have stored for the show. From a strong lineup to the biggest segments to date, executive producer Michael Davies and producer Sarah Whitcomb Foss reveal what’s to come.
Jeopardy! Season 39’s filming has begun, and everything’s set for its big return with 25 episodes in the can. Here are what fans have to watch out for.
A Very Special Episode
Davies and Whitcomb discussed the big things coming to the game show’s new season in the latest Inside Jeopardy! podcast.
“It’s a very exciting period coming up,” Davies teased.
According to TV Insider, fans are about to see the Second Chance Tournament, Tournament of Champions, and an Election Day plan.
With these events, Davies promised fans could look forward to something “really tremendous.”
The Election Day episode will also fall on November 8, which happens to be Alex Trebek’s second death anniversary. So, this episode will be paying tribute to its former host.
“Overall, we owe him a fantastic episode of Jeopardy on that day,” Davies added. “It may well break the internet. I don’t want to give too much away.”
The New Celebrity Jeopardy!, Tournament of Champions
Among many other things that are about to happen in Jeopardy! Season 39 is the new Celebrity Jeopardy! format.
Alternatively, the Tournament of Champions will feature the likes of Amy Schneider and Matt Amodio, among others.
“I think the tournament format will change a little bit year to year,” Davies revealed. The Wild Card function, in addition, was inspired by the G.O.A.T. Tournament, and Davies added it would just “work out this year.”
Celebrity Jeopardy! Guests
Celebrity Jeopardy! will be featuring celeb participants like Shang-Chi’s Simu Liu, Arrested Development’s Michael Cera, Criminal Minds’ Aisha Tyler, Everybody Loves Raymond’s Ray Romano, Fresh off the Boat’s Constance Wu, The Office’s B.J. Novak, Patton Oswalt, comedienne Iliza Shlesinger, and WNBA star Candace Parker, per TVLine.
These players will be competing against each other to win a pot of money for their chosen charities.
Mayim Bialik will handle Celebrity Jeopardy! as part of the two hosts’ shared duties. Ken Jennings, on the other hand, will kick off Jeopardy! Season 39, which will premiere on September 12, and host the Second Chance and the next Tournament of Champions.
