Last Friday, Netflix made it official as they renewed the hit series Wednesday for a second season. The exciting news came after speculations that the series might leave the streamer and move to Prime Video since its production company MGM Television is now owned by Amazon.
Right after the news became official, Jenna Ortega, the Golden Globe-nominated actress who plays the titular character, took to Twitter and reacted to the announcement where she thanked her fans and called the experience of the show's success "surreal."
"Thanks to everyone who made this upcoming season possible. This has all been pretty surreal," she wrote. You can check here tweet here:
Speaking with Tudum, showrunners Miles Millar and Alfred Gough shared their excitement about the show's renewal. "We can’t wait to dive headfirst into another season and explore the kooky, spooky world of Nevermore. We just need to make sure Wednesday hasn’t emptied the pool first," they said.
Ortega added in that same interview, "[Wednesday] sticks to her guns, and she’s not out to please anybody. Which, as someone who used to be an immense people pleaser, I really respect."
The show's second-season renewal wasn't a surprise for anyone at this point. After all, the series has garnered more than a billion hours of views in its first 28 days, making it the third show in the streamer's history to do so. The show's "Wednesday dance" became trending on TikTok. They also earned Golden Globe nominations including recognition for Ortega.
It is certainly exciting to hear that the series has been renewed for the second season since a lot of fans were anxiously waiting for an official announcement. It is curious to see what they have in store for the character's next kooky adventure.
