Netflix reasserted its dominance in 2022 as the leading brand in terms of streaming with the release of the Addams Family spinoff show Wednesday, a project that would receive unprecedented levels of success, even beating out the streamer's flagship program Stranger Things to score the most viewing time in a single week for an English-language series on the streaming platform.

Obviously, the most logical route is for Netflix to announce Season 2 but it turns out that's not as easy as it sounds. In a shocking turn of events, a new report suggests that the Jenna Ortega-led series' days as part of the Netflix library could be coming to an end and Wednesday might move to a brand new streaming home this year.

According to a March 2022 report from Deadline (via The Independent), Amazon and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer closed a multi-billion merger amounting to a whopping $8.5 billion. This means that the hit series which is a project produced under the MGM banner might be switching platforms.

This is reportedly why Netflix hasn't announced the show's second season and there's a good chance that the modern-day version of the Addams Family will soon be seen on Amazon’s streaming service, Prime Video. As it stands, nothing official has been set in stone so of course, take this one with a massive grain of salt.

Of course, Netflix and Amazon could still iron out a deal that would see Wednesday stay but then again, they would be foolish not to take advantage of the Wednesday hype train. Realistically speaking though, Netflix is a bigger platform than Prime Video and there's always a risk of the show becoming a flop once its transfers to a lesser-known service.

All episodes of Wednesday's first season are available to stream on Netflix.
