James Gunn Will Focus On Suicide Squad 2 Before Working On Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3

People are currently celebrating James Gunn's reinstatement as director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. However, some fans are also concerned that this could mean Gunn might step away from Suicide Squad 2, which he is currently writing and directing as well. Nevertheless, it looks like Gunn will be focusing on the DC Extended Universe flick before turning his attention on the Marvel film.

Here's what happened: Gunn was fired back in July 2018 after his old offensive tweets resurfaced and caught the attention of Disney. The director himself made a public apology and the Guardians of the Galaxy cast and crew supported the filmmaker in an effort to get him reinstated for Vol. 3. Unfortunately, Disney seemed firm with their decision and even put the movie on hold.

When it seemed unlikely that he would be hired by Disney again, Gunn took on Suicide Squad 2, which is expected to be a reboot. Just a few months after Gunn started writing and sharing plans for the DCEU flick, Disney changed their mind and it was revealed that Gunn would still be directing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

So what will happen to Suicide Squad 2? According to ScreenRant, the film will continue as planned and is still set for its August 6, 2021 release. Gunn is expected to focus on the project and will only begin work on GOTG V3 once the movie is completed. Unfortunately, this means the MCU film might not premiere until 2022 or 2023.

It will be a long wait but it looks like everyone is happy about the way things worked out. Needless to say, Gunn is back and he's ready to blow your minds away with two amazing movies in the near future.
