Marvel Never Actually Fired James Gunn?

Fans everywhere are pretty overwhelmed by the recent reports of James Gunn returning to Disney and Marvel after getting fired for tweets he made more than a decade ago. Since he left, the state of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has been in question and the film's cast made sure people knew that they were on Gunn's side.

However, there are now reports claiming that James Gunn was never fired from Disney or Marvel. Weird.

Yeah, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney had reportedly made a secret deal with Gunn to bring him back after a certain period of time. Apparently, it also allowed him to work for the direct competition as Gunn would accept a deal with DC to direct and write The Suicide Squad.

Oh well, at least we're guaranteed a proper Guardians of the Galaxy sequel, as well as a quality follow-up to Suicide Squad. It's clear that Gunn's future is brighter than ever, though one has to wonder why Marvel and Disney had to "fire" him. They could have easily suspended him or fined him, even if those comments were made more than a decade ago.

Despite his return, we still don't have a proper release date for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The Suicide Squad comes out in 2021.
