James Gunn Responds to U.S. Congressman Over the Pressure to Release DCU Slate

January is over, and the clock is ticking for DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran to release their DCU slate that fans have been looking forward to since the last year that they assumed the post. We saw the DC Universe crumble in 2022 when Henry Cavill was fired as Superman and Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman 3 was canceled, to name a few unfortunate events. Given that, everyone is in a position to hope that the new plans of the management of DC will make up for all those losses.

Robert Garcia, the 28th Mayor of Long Beach, California, took to Twitter on Monday to press Gunn to release his DCU plan by February 1st. Aside from his political affairs, Garcia is also a big fan of comics and superheroes, and with most projects in DC’s Extended Universe remaining mysteries, he took the leverage to speak on behalf of the fans, saying that if the Peacemaker creator failed to deliver what was asked of him, he would pull him in for a congressional hearing.

“If @JamesGunn doesn’t present the new DCU plan by February 1st, I’m calling him in for a congressional hearing where I will ask the tough questions everyone wants to know.” the congressman wrote.

The playful tweet from the member of the U.S. House of Representatives managed to get the attention of the Guardians of the Galaxy writer. Gunn simply answered with a blushed face emoji, but the city council is not one to back down. “Sir, the American people deserve answers.” Garcia pushed. Gunn plainly responded, “And answers they will receive.”

The exchange between the lawmaker and CEO ended with Garcia’s “LFG!” an internet slang that means looking for a group. It is commonly used by players to signal that they are looking to join an organized multiplayer group or guild for the games they love to play. Garcia’s online joke gathered positive reactions from fans who are relieved that someone is being their spokesperson.

@TheDailyKrypto replied to the congressman's appeal, “Please and thank you!” The American DC fans need this! The mayor answered, “It’s the least I can do to serve the people.” Some have amusingly commented that Garcia is a small portion of the government that functions for the people. “A government of the people, for the people, by the people," said @madhur_mrt.

Gunn only has one answer for when it’s D-Day; as long as it’s January, fans can expect it any day. Once he and Safran release their long-awaited, most-dreaded slate, it will be a collective meltdown for the DCU fans.
