James Gunn Claims Phyla's MCU Debut in GOTGV3 Was His Idea

There is little doubt that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 had a lot of awesome new characters into the Marvel Cinematic Universe and these were probably part of Marvel Studios' future plans. However, James Gunn says that the introduction of Phyla-Vell was his idea.

In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, the gang stumbles upon captive children in the High Evolutionary's ship. They immediately work to free the children and the rest of the High Evolutionary's creations.

One of the kids is later revealed to be Phyla, as in the Marvel comic book character Phyla-Vell, and she becomes one of the new Guardians of the Galaxy.

But why choose to introduce Phyla-Vell in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3? James Gunn confirmed on Twitter that it was his idea to do so.

It's interesting to know that James Gunn was the one who decided to give Phyla her big MCU debut. On the other hand, some people are also questioning why he chose to introduce the character as a child instead of an adult.

In the comics, Phyla-Vell is the daughter of Mar-Vell who was created from the late hero's DNA. Phyla takes the name Quasar in the comics but she also becomes Captain Marvel.

Kai Zen played the young Phyla who would go on to become a Guardian of the Galaxy.

It's unclear why Marvel Studios agreed to add yet another Captain Marvel to the MCU. Still, we're not sure if Phyla will actually become another Captain Marvel or if MCU has other plans for her.

Either way, we're happy to see Phyla-Vell finally joining the Guardians of the Galaxy and we're looking forward to seeing more of her in the future.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is still screening in theaters across the globe.
