Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Causes Marvel Outrage Over New Character

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is finally here and as expected, people have feelings after watching the Marvel Cinematic Universe sequel. Interestingly, fans also have strong reactions to a comic book character who made their debut in the James Gunn film.

In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, the High Evolutionary is in the middle of creating a new race of superpowered children who are later rescued by Drax, Nebula, and Mantis. At first, the kids don't appear to be anything too special but the mid-credits scene confirms that one of them is actually a major comic book character.

The mid-credits scene features Rocket, the new leader of the Guardians, with his new team on a mission. The team includes a fully-grown Groot, Cosmo, Adam Warlock, Kraglin, the furry creature Blurp, and one of the imprisoned children who is revealed to be named Phyla. As in Phyla-Vell.

In the comics, Phyla-Vell is the daughter of Mar-Vell who was created from the late hero's DNA. Phyla takes the name Quasar in the comics but she also becomes Captain Marvel.

Not surprisingly, people have strong reactions to Phyla-Vell's debut. Although nobody is saying anything about the young actor who plays the character (because Kai Zen did an awesome job), fans are unhappy that Phyla's origins got a major change in the MCU. Additionally, people are disappointed that Daniela Melchior was not cast as the other Captain Marvel.

It's unclear why Marvel Studios agreed to add yet another Captain Marvel to the MCU. Still, we're not sure if Phyla will actually become another Captain Marvel or if MCU has other plans for her. Either way, we're happy to see Phyla-Vell finally joining the Guardians of the Galaxy and we're looking forward to seeing more of her in the future.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is now screening in theaters across the globe.
