The third Guardians of the Galaxy film is already shaping up to be quite the emotional roller coaster ride due to the fact that it may actually be the final time we see our favorite space outlaws together in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Director James Gunn has stated over the last couple of months that he plans to end the saga with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, even going as far as claiming that his filmmaking days are over once the project is done.

Joining him in his desire to move on to other ventures is wrestler-turned-actor Dave Bautista who plays Drax the Destroyer in the franchise. Although Dave considers the opportunity to become part of the MCU a huge turning point in his acting career, the actor has expressed his unhappiness over the way Drax has been handled in all of his film appearances.

Unsurprisingly, Gunn is aware of Dave's plans to quit the MCU after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and apparently, he approves of his desire to close a huge chapter in his Hollywood career. Doing his usual rounds of Q&A on Instagram, The Suicide Squad director was asked by a fan about his thoughts regarding Bautista's potential exit. He said: "I get it. I totally support Dave in whatever he chooses to do."

It looks like nothing is going to change his mind about staying in the franchise but I'm hoping that if Drax does in fact die in Vol. 3, he leaves the galaxy on his own terms. I'm guessing the third film will put more emphasis on the character and quite frankly, I'd love to see that happen. As much as I enjoyed Drax's comedic moments in the franchise, he deserves better treatment overall.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 hits cinemas in May 2023.
