IU decided not to push through with her supposed role in the webtoon-based drama, Money Game.

Fans were excited to see IU in a drama again following her commendable performances in Hotel Del Luna and Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo, among others. So when a Naver Webtoon representative said that she would lead the drama, Money Game, UAENA immediately added the drama to their watchlist.

However, it will not happen anymore as the singer left the cast for good.

IU Leaves Cast of Money Game

On Friday, Studio N released a statement confirming the Good Day hitmaker’s departure from the drama, citing scheduling conflicts as the reason.

IU was previously to participate in the drama, and many people had since looked forward to it as she would be working with A-listers like Ruyu Jun Yeol, Park Hae Joon, Park Jung Min, Bae Sung Woo, Lee Yul Eum, Moon Jung Hee, and Lee Joo Young.

Money Game will be an eight-episode series that follows Bae Jin Soo's creations, Money Game and Pie Game.

IU will be replaced by Chun Woo Hee, the actress who appeared in several films recently like Anchor, I Want to Know Your Parents, Booth Luck, and Waiting for Rain.

The Face Reader and Emergency Declaration director, filmmaker Han Jae Rim, will work on Money Game's script and directing. Studio N, meanwhile, will be responsible for creating videos for Naver Webtoon. It previously produced critically-acclaimed shows such as Sweet Home, Yumi's Cells, and Our Beloved Summer.

IU Attends 2022 Cannes

The confirmation came after IU attended this year’s Cannes Film Festival as one of the lead cast members of the Korean movie, Broker.

She stars alongside Song Kang Ho, Bae Doona, Kang Dong Won, and Lee Joo Young. The movie officially premiered during a screening on Thursday at the Lumiere Grand Theater of Palais des Festivals.

IU’s movie received a 12-minute standing ovation at the event, which was reportedly the longest one for a Korean film ever this year.
