ISAC, or the Idol Star Athletics Championships, is finally returning to show idols, singers, and celebrities competing in multi-sport events.

Starting in 2010, ISAC has been inviting several groups and individuals to participate in a number of Idol Championships sports. They also made several records while participating in the events, like former SISTAR member Bora (three golds and one silver in 2010), BtoB’s Minhyuk (three golds and one silver in 2014; one gold, two silvers, and one bronze in 2015), and SHINee’s Minho (three golds in 2011), to name a few.

Now that the competition is back, fans can expect idols to break records and make history again outside the music industry.

ISAC 2022 Is Coming!

On Friday, MBC confirmed the highly-anticipated return of ISAC after three years.

The network decided to skip airing it for three years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Before the health issue occurred, the show aired twice a year for several days. Idols came together during the Lunar new year holiday and during the Chuseok, or Korean Thanksgiving holiday.

Its supposed 2020 Idol Star Athletics Championships – Chuseok Special got canceled, and it has not aired in the past years although it released several spinoffs.

“It’s true that we are once again planning the ‘Idol Star Athletics Championships,’” MBC said. “We are still in the process of discussing the details.”

However, MBC clarified that it has not finalized the details yet.

Speculated Lineup for ISAC 2022

Before MBC confirmed the arrival of ISAC 2022, many viewers already predicted the lineup of groups who might join the competition.

The list, so far, includes Treasure, Wei, ONEUS, TXT, Winner, Cypher, Weeekly, Secret Number, Aespa, Kep1er, GHOST9, BTS, NCT, SEVENTEEN, ASTRO, Pentagon, VERIVERY, and VICTON, among others.

This should be taken with a grain of salt, though, as BTS recently said they would focus on individual promotions and projects for now.

“We're each going to take some time to have fun and experience a lot of things,” Jungkook said. “We promise we will return someday even more mature than we are now.”
