It's no secret that Jenna Ortega rose to instant stardom after her portrayal of the classic character in Netflix's Wednesday. So when her previous shows came to light, many people got shocked that she was actually in them.

Case in point: people actually forgot that Ortega was in You Season 2. She played the role of Ellie Alves, the younger sister of Delilah (played by Carmela Zumbado) who Joe Goldberg (played by Penn Badgley) got closed to. Unfortunately, Delilah was murdered by Love Quinn (played by Victoria Pedretti) after discovering that she knew Joe's secrets. Since then, Joe has gotten protective of Ellie and has continued to send her money in You Season 3.

Ortega's character didn't return in the third season of You. In fact, she was only mentioned by Joe in passing. So is Jenna Ortega back in You Season 4? Here's what we know so far.

According to You showrunner, Sera Gamble, Jenna Ortega was actually supposed to reprise her role in the fourth season. But because of scheduling conflicts with Wednesday, the actress wasn't able to rejoin the show.

In an interview with IndieWire, Gamble said:

"We wanted to bring Ellie back and we heard, 'Oh, Jenna is doing some show.'"

So instead of having her in the fourth season, Ellie was, again, mentioned in passing by Joe in the premiere:

“Most of my professor tricks are one trick I picked up spending time with a girl named Ellie. Wind them up, let them go. Teenagers will argue both sides for you."

Even though Ortega has gotten busy with Wednesday and the Scream reboot, Gamble did not rule out the possibility of bringing her back into the show.

"It's been such a pleasure to see Jenna this year. We have ideas for Ellie if her schedule allows her to visit us again."

As with the return of other potential characters, Gamble revealed that they are always welcome to return.

"Any character who's not dead who knows anything about Joe, it's fair game to try to exert any justice. And any character who is dead, he has a really active imagination."

Let's keep an eye out for Jenna's return in future seasons of You. In the meantime, you can check out some of her answers to fans' questions from three years ago:
