The British anthology television series Black Mirror has been a fan-favorite since its release and for some, it may be confusing to see a new topic every episode, this leads to the question of whether every release of the show is different from each other? Is it connected or is it stand alone from one another?

From the word itself, anthology series is composed of episodes having different stories and sets of characters. Black Mirror has various stories on each run. It is based on The Twilight Zone, a cult classic, having twisted revelations and surprises. It has a diverse genre of topics with near-future dystopian events, sci-fi tech went wrong, and contemporary issues which could scarily come true.

Created by Charlie Brooker, Black Mirror has five seasons on the streaming giant, Netflix. While there is no news yet if the show would be back for another season as there has been no order yet for new episodes, what's good is that it has not been officially canceled as well. Some issues on the rights of the show remain and Season 6 is floating because of that.

Is Every Episode Different in Black Mirror?

To look at it plainly, every episode is different in Black Mirror and each of the stories has a new topic, some even really possible to happen shortly. As an anthology series, it is the nature of the show to have new characters and new plots for every appearance. It is different from each other, to say the least.

However, despite the nature of the show having standalone episodes, in an interview with Express, Brooker confirmed that each of the installments belongs to one shared universe, may it be thematically or physically. He said, "We always used to say it's a shared universe but then I started to say it's a psychologically shared universe and now some of the episodes are definitely connected because there are specific references within that story to things we've seen in other episodes."

Also, some eagle-eyed viewers are keen on the details which might connect or link every episode. Some noticed that there are easter eggs in Season 5 which could connect to other previous runs. In the Smithereens episode, a nod to Bandersnatch was seen with the Saito Gemu Announcement, another is the contacts of a character that calls back to a previous one from a different episode.

The easter eggs did not stop there also. Across the five seasons, there were a lot of connecting links between the episodes making it really possible that while the topics of each are different, they all happen in one shared universe.

Fan theories make the show more interesting. Whether it would be back for Season 6, surely, there are a lot who are waiting for its return.
