Is Children of the Corn Coming to Netflix?

There have been a number of horror remakes to date; among the most notable ones include It, Carrie, Pet Sematary, and many others. As if this list isn't enough, a new remake of Children of the Corn has been announced.

This time around, the remake will be directed by Kurt Wimmer. But the movie will follow the same premise of a possessed 12-year-old who encourages other local children to kill all the adults.

What Is the Children of the Corn Movie About?

The synopsis of the original Children of the Corn movie released in 1984 reads:

"As physician Burt Stanton (Peter Horton) and his girlfriend, Vicky (Linda Hamilton), drive across the Midwest to his new job, their trip comes to a sudden halt when they encounter the body of a murdered boy in the road. In trying to contact the authorities, Burt and Vicky wander into a small town populated only by children, followers of sinister young preacher Isaac Chroner (John Franklin). Soon the couple is fleeing the youthful fanatics, who want to sacrifice them to their demonic deity."

The horror movie is based on a short story written by Stephen King of the same title. The upcoming movie is the third remake of the original film.

Even though there have been several Children of the Corn titles, the best one is still the original movie released in 1984. So if you plan on binge-watching these movies, you can start with the first movie and move on from there. Majority of these films are loosely based on the same series with each one acting as somewhat of a sequel to its predecessor.

Of course, the ones that are different from the lot are the two remakes, the Children of the Corn (2009) and Children of the Corn (2020). The former is a TV movie remake of the 1984 film. Meanwhile, the upcoming movie is actually a prequel that takes place before the events of the first movie.

The new Children of the Corn is slated for a theatrical release on Friday, March 3. The movie will be available in select theaters so if you're interested in watching it, you can check the schedule on Fandango.

There's no word yet on when the new Children of the Corn will be coming on streaming platforms but it will be coming to Shudder 18 days after its theatrical release.
