Indira Varma's Mysterious Role in Dune: The Sisterhood Possibly Revealed

Dune: The Sisterhood has found its star. Indira Varma, who previously thrilled viewers in Obi-Wan Kenobi, has just been cast in one of the lead roles in the highly anticipated spin-off series and it looks like she is playing an important character.

Deadline confirms that Indira Varma is the third actor to join Dune: The Sisterhood. It was previously reported that the prequel will star Emily Watson and Shirley Henderson. Although Varma's role has not yet been disclosed, there are speculations that she will play Empress Natalya, "a formidable royal who united thousands of worlds in her marriage to Emperor Corrino," (via CBM).

This is certainly an awesome role for Indira Varma who always had a knack for taking memorable roles. She is best known for her portrayal of Ellaria Sand in Game of Thrones and Piety Breakspear in Carnival Row. Varma's latest brief yet notable role was in the Star Wars series Obi-Wan Kenobi where she played Tala Durith in three episodes.

In the meantime, it looks like Dune: The Sisterhood will be moving forward soon. The same report confirms that the series will begin production in Budapest, Hungary next month. This means that the spin-off will be filmed at around the same time as Dune: Part II. Needless to say, Denis Villeneuve will be very busy as the year comes to a close.

Dune: The Sisterhood is "set 10,000 years before the ascension of Paul Atreides" and "will follow the Harkonnen Sisters as they combat forces that threaten the future of humankind, and establish the fabled sect known as the Bene Gesserit." The show is set to stream on HBO Max.

Dune: Part II will bring back Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Zendaya, Charlotte Rampling, and Javier Bardem. The sequel is already scheduled for release on November 3, 2023.
