Indiana Jones 5 has been in developmental hell for years now but last December, during Disney's 2020 Investor Day, Lucasfilm finally announced that the fifth installment in the Indiana Jones franchise is coming our way in 2022! The yet-to-be-titled project will mark the return of Harrison Ford as everyone's favorite badass archeologist after close to 13 years.

As it stands, we still know very little about the project but it's expected to pick up where 2008's Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull left off. Not only that, but it will mark James Mangold's franchise debut as he takes over for Stephen Spielberg who helmed all four Indiana Jones projects. Now, in a new announcement, the film outfit which is also home to Star Wars has revealed the actress who will play the lead role opposite Indy himself.

As per Deadline, Phoebe Waller-Bridge has been tapped to star in the film but details about her involvement in the project still remain under wraps as of writing. Fun fact, this isn't the actress' first rodeo with Lucasfilm as Waller-Bridge actually voiced L3-37 in 2016's Rogue One: A Star Wars Story so if anything, she's stepping into familiar territory.

The Indiana Jones franchise has stood the test of time and it's amazing that we're still getting ourselves more Indy goodness after over four decades. If anything, this new project will introduce Jones to an entirely new generation of fans and honestly, I'm all here for it! Now, while it's still a little too early to tell whether or not this fifth film will spawn a sequel, as long as Harrison Ford can still go, I wouldn't mind seeing him continue Indy's legacy.

Indiana Jones 5 is slated for release in July 2022.
