Hugh Jackman Gets Honest About His Wolverine Return: "I Really Want to Do That"

Some time ago, the MCU fandom got excited when it was announced that Hugh Jackman is making his return as Wolverine again in Deadpool 3. The news was celebrated by a lot of fans since they never thought that the actor will play the role ever again after declaring Logan as his last appearance as the character. Now people are wondering: why did Jackman change his mind?

Speaking recently with Deadline, Jackman discussed his upcoming return as Wolverine in Deadpool 3 where he explained why he decided to reprise the role despite saying publicly in the past that Logan was his last turn as the character.

The Oscar nominee revealed that the first Deadpool film presented him with the opportunity to change his mind about his decision.

"Well, I was 20 minutes into watching Deadpool and I had just announced, literally, a few weeks before that Logan was going to be my last, which I fully intended. And then I was like, 'Uh-oh,'" he said.

Jackman went on to recall a moment back in August that led him to decide to play Wolverine again in Deadpool 3 during his vacation break from The Music Man on Broadway.

He continued, "And here’s maybe a bit of a hangover from Florian [Zeller]. I was just driving out to the beach. It was mid-August, I had a week off from the show [The Music Man on Broadway], my first week off in eight, nine months, 10 months. And it came to me like, 'I really want to do that.' And that was it."

The moment Jackman decides to play the character again, he immediately called Ryan Reynolds to let him know about his decision.

"As soon as I arrived at the beach, I rang Ryan [Reynolds] just to see what the hell was going on. And then here we are. It was so quick," he revealed. "And trust me, there’s not a morning I don’t wake up where Ryan Reynolds is outside my house with posters saying, 'Please.' He’s constantly asking me about it. And I was like, 'Dude, I’m done. I’m done, I’m done, I’m done, I’m done, I’m done.' So then when he rang me [back], he was like, 'Are you serious?' So yeah."

Jackman also admitted that while he declared Logan as the last time he is playing the role, he knew deep inside that he could still return at some point by then. He said, "I’m a terrible poker player. All this time I was saying I was done, I really meant it. But anyway, somewhere deep down, this idea was obviously lurking and brewing,"

It is exciting to see what the film has in store for Deadpool and Wolverine's upcoming team-up and how it will all tie up in the overall arc of the Multiverse Saga in the MCU. Most especially, what Jackman will bring into the role as he returns to potentially play him one last time again.
