Hugh Jackman Almost Returned as Wolverine in Scrapped X-Men Film Focusing on Beast

We already know that Hugh Jackman is returning as Wolverine in Deadpool 3 but it looks like the Logan actor could have played the mutant in one more X-Men film. New details from the scrapped Beast spin-off movie have been revealed and it confirms that Jackman was set to reprise his iconic role in the standalone project.

There have been reports of an X-Men spin-off film focusing on Nicholas Hoult's Beast being planned by 20th Century Fox but the project never got past development after the Disney acquisition. Still, it has been confirmed that a screenplay was completed. The full script for X-Men: Fear the Beast has been shared on Reddit and it reveals that Hugh Jackman was supposed to reunite with his X-Men: Days of Future Past co-star.

X-Men: Fear the Beast follows Hank McCoy as he struggles to control his anger which affects his mutation. Beast later sets out on a solo mission to help an old friend and encounters Wendigo and Mr. Sinister. The film would have brought back Hoult, Jackman, and James McAvoy as Charles Xavier aka Professor X.

It's interesting to know that Fox had big plans for the other X-Men characters after X-Men: Apocalypse but those plans ended with Dark Phoenix. After all, Apocalypse already teased the arrival of Mr. Sinister who could have been the next Thanos-level villain in the X-Men Universe.

For now, it is unclear which mutants will show up in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and whether other major X-Men characters will be introduced in the near future. In the meantime, we can look forward to Hugh Jackman returning as Wolverine in Deadpool 3.

Deadpool 3 has not yet been given an official title or release date. However, the sequel is set to be produced by Marvel Studios and Disney, and will bring back Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson.
