How to Watch Boruto Without Filler: Watch Order and What to Skip

Shueisha is the one who proposed to Kishimoto that Naruto should have a sequel. It was rejected by the creator but assigned Mikio Ikemoto, Kishimoto’s assistant, to draw it. Ikemoto is also the one who wrote the film, Boruto: Naruto the Movie. Eventually, Kodachi and Ikemoto created the manga together.

Fans might have noticed that the timeline of the start of the anime is not the continuation of the movie, despite it being released after the film. So a lot of fans have been wondering what is the right watch order of the series, and what should be skipped? Continue reading to find out.

For those who are not aware, the story of Boruto originally started with Naruto Gaiden: The Seventh Hokage and the Scarlet Spring. It was an independent book and was released the same time Boruto: Naruto the Movie was released. Both were released in 2015. In October of the same year, Boruto was added to Naruto manga’s final chapter.

In July 2016, an OVA was released entitled, The Day Naruto Became Hokage. The Boruto manga was released later on and after a year, the anime made its premiere. What fans should know is that the independent book mentioned earlier and the Boruto film have the same events. Meanwhile, the OVA and the last Naruto manga chapter have the same content.

For those who wanted to watch the series in the right order, they should consider watching Episodes 1 to 51 of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations. After that, they can watch the Boruto film, then continue watching Episodes 52 until the most recent episodes of Boruto

Those who wish to watch the canon episodes should watch in this order:

Episodes 1 to 15
Episodes 19 to 32
Episodes 35 to 39
Episodes 42 to 47
Episodes 52 to 59
Episode 60
Episodes 62 to 66
Episodes 71 to 92
Episodes 98 to 103
Episode 112
Episodes 120 to 137
Episodes 141 to 151

The episodes in between are fillers. New fans cannot watch the 720 episodes of Naruto as Boruto has a different story from Naruto. They just have to familiarize themselves with the relationships of the characters and the abilities of previous characters.
