Land (Ranto in some translations) is a second-class mage who joined the annual first-class mage exams at Auberst in the hopes of getting a first-class mage license.

Unlike the other test takers, such as Ubel and Wirbel, Land is not an aggressive and impulsive type of mage. He has a calculative and overly cautious personality, which means he doesn’t trust other people easily.

In fact, Land doesn’t trust anyone in the mage exams. He barely even interacts with the rest of the test takers, except Ubel, who decided to get to know him better.

During the first stage of the mage exams, Land partied with Ubel and Fern. They captured a stille together and even defended it against Wirbel, Ehre, and Scharf, who tried to steal it from them.

While Ubel and Fern had a face-off with Wirbel and Ehre, Land faced Scharf.

Not much is known about Land and his magic spells, except for his incredibly powerful yet unnamed duplication or doppelganger spell in Frieren.

During Land’s fight with Scharf, he uses a doppelganger to analyze Scharf’s abilities, including his weaknesses, to understand how he could win the match.

While Scharf thought that he'd won the match, it was the other way around. Before Scharf could do something about it, Land knocked him out with a blow to the neck.

Ubel also thinks Land is an expert at doppelganger magic, even though she can’t tell exactly how powerful Land is.

Land's clones can use the abilities of his original self, making it harder for his opponents to identify if he’s real or not.

In the final stage of the exams, Serie revealed that Land’s body has not left his home village, which means the Land who has been participating in the exams is a clone.

In reality, Land's real body is at home, enjoying a cup of tea. And because Land has some real guts to do this, Serie decided to pass him.
