Meet Hajime Umemiya, Bofurin’s Top Dog in Wind Breaker
Unlike other gang or delinquent leaders, Hajime Umemiya is carefree, outgoing, casual, and a fun-loving guy.
He likes food more than anything else, so much so that he has vegetables growing on the rooftop of Bofurin, including eggplants, cucumbers, tomatoes, and even bell peppers.
He’s the type of leader who’s always looking for opportunities to get along with his men, like having barbecues together or just eating out at Kotoha’s place, rather than fighting with other gangs like Shishitoren.
He jokes around a lot, but that doesn’t mean he’s a weak leader. Everyone in Bofurin respects him enough that even Kyotaro Sugishita, who’s known for being one of the most dangerous guys at school, is an extreme fanatic.
Above all, Hajime treats everyone in Bofurin and even in town as his family. This explains why Bofurin only has one rule: students must protect everything in town, be it people or objects.

How Strong Is Hajime Umemiya in Wind Breaker?
As the leader of Bofurin, Hajime Umemiya is expected to be a strong fighter. Yes, he’s strong, but he would rather discuss and negotiate than fight with other people.
Still, he believes fighting is also a type of discussion and that his fists are best used to communicate with his opponent.
Contrary to Sakura's belief, Hajime became Bofurin's leader to constantly have fun with his members. He wants everyone to smile and enjoy to the fullest.
Despite this, Hajime is a formidable fighter who can defeat Shishitoren's leader, Chouji Tomiyama, in a one-on-one duel.
He is strong enough to take all of Tomiyama's punches and kicks without defending himself to make his point.
Meanwhile, Sakura feels a lot of pressure whenever Umemiya becomes serious or angry.
He exudes an imposing presence that makes Sakura nervous, which points to his genuine strength.
When he's in rage mode, he transforms into an entirely different person, so it's best to avoid him.
