How Is Stephen Lang's Colonel Miles Quartich Alive in Avatar: The Way of Water?

Much to the surprise of everyone, Stephen Lang returns as the villain in Avatar: The Way of Water as Colonel Miles Quaritch despite the characters' death in Avatar after being shot by Neytiri's arrow straight to his heart, causing his instant demise.

But how it is made possible is what baffled the viewers and Avatar: The Way of Water answered it piece by piece. It started when Colonel Miles Quaritch, now in his Na'vi body, woke up in a satellite space station just outside Pandora where he was surprised to see himself as such.

His colleagues, too, were generally in the same form, and they plan to infiltrate Pandora once more, with Quaritch's mind fixed on vengeance on Jake. Well, technically, he's dead but his consciousness was transferred to his Na'vi form, thus, being the Quaritch that everyone sees in the film.

He even paid his dead body a visit near the old shack, the old station where he and his colleagues first tried to infiltrate Pandora, and he even saw his own death through a view on the uploaded memories from his device. Upon seeing his own skull, he even crushed it to pieces.

What made him go deeper in his vengeance is seeing Neytiri's arrow which he encountered once more later in the film.

This transfer of consciousness is made possible through scientific advancements on their research and it proved to be useful for the Sky People that they used them to get to their goal in Pandora, even if it means a trial and error way.

By the end of the film, while his colleagues are all dead from the sunken ship by the reefs, Colonel Miles Quaritch was saved by his own son, Spider, from drowning. Thus, the threat on Jake remains.

See the return of Stephen Lang as Miles Quaritch in Avatar: The Way of Water, now in theaters worldwide.
