House of the Dragon Star Explains Why Game of Thrones Prequel Was a Huge Hit

It's no secret that House of the Dragon has been a huge hit for HBO just like its predecessor. Although this isn't a huge surprise, Ewan Mitchell has provided an awesome explanation as to why the Game of Thrones prequel resonated so well with viewers.

Ewan Mitchell played the older Aemond Targaryen in House of the Dragon and his character has already proved to be one of the most decisive ones in the series. Interestingly, he credits the show's success to its timing since the prequel was released after COVID-19 left everyone needing something truly entertaining.

"It was filmed over a long period of time, when the whole world fell, basically. The last two-and-a-half years have been so disruptive to so many people’s lives," Mitchell told The Face. "We’ve been plunged into the unknown. I think it’s brilliant that we were able to give the audience back a world that they do know: the world of Westeros."

"You know nothing ends in diplomacy. You can count on a Targaryen being a Targaryen, on a Baratheon being a Baratheon," he continued. "I really think that familiarity gives the audience something to grasp onto and rely on in uncertain times."

House of the Dragon was certainly an excellent escape into a completely different world and watching all the Targaryen drama made our lives more interesting. Nevertheless, we're pretty sure that the Game of Thrones prequel would still be a huge hit even if it was released this year.

It has already been confirmed that House of the Dragon is getting a second season which is expected to begin production very soon. However, House of the Dragon Season 2 has not yet been given an official release date. There are speculations that the series will return sometime in 2024. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
