House of the Dragon Breaks UK Viewership Record with 4M Viewers

There is little doubt that House of the Dragon is well on its way to living up to the hype surrounding the Game of Thrones prequel. We already know that the spin-off made an impressive debut in late August. Not surprisingly, it has been confirmed that the HBO show is doing exceptionally well in the UK as well!

British network Sky recently reported that House of the Dragon has become the most-watched ever HBO title to premiere on UK screens, and the most watched premiere on Sky Atlantic (via Collider). Sky, along with UK ratings agency Barb, reports that the show's premiere episode The Heirs of the Dragon was watched by over 4 million people.

It's an amazing feat that isn't a huge surprise. It was previously reported that House of the Dragon Episode 1 had a grand total of 10 million viewers on its first day of release. With that in mind, viewership is growing and there could be as many as 20 million viewers in the next episode of the Game of Thrones spin-off.

House of the Dragon Episode 1 followed King Viserys I Targaryen as he loses his wife and son during a difficult birth. Without a male heir, Viserys is forced to choose between his daughter Rhaenyra Targaryen and his brother Daemon Targaryen to be his heir. Considering that Daemon is an unpredictable individual who disrespected the death of the queen and her baby, Viserys ultimately chose Rhaenyra, making her the first potential queen of Westeros.

House of the Dragon Episodes 1 to 3 is now on HBO. House of the Dragon Episode 4 is titled King of the Narrow Sea. The new episode will premiere on HBO on Sunday, September 11, 2022, at 9:00 PM EST.
