House of the Dragon Episode 7 is being declared the best episode of the series so far. However, there are a few things that people are complaining about. For one, Driftmark featured several scenes that barely had any lighting and were deemed too dark to watch. Now, HBO has addressed the issue and offered an explanation for the dimly lit scenes in the episode.
In House of the Dragon Episode 7, everyone from King's Landing and Dragonstone headed for Driftmark to mourn the death of Laena Velaryon. Although most of the reunions were filmed with proper lighting, two standout scenes had everything that the viewers have been waiting for except ... enough light.
It didn't take long before fans began complaining about House of the Dragon Episode 7's "dark" scenes and the official HBO Max Twitter support account responded with a simple explanation.
"Hi Stephen! We appreciate you reaching out about a night scene in House of the Dragon: Episode 7 appearing dark on your screen. The dimmed lighting of this scene was an intentional creative decision. Thanks! ^LL," the tweet read.
The episode, which was directed by co-showrunner Miguel Sapochnik, featured three scenes that were shot on the beach at night. The first scene followed Rhaenyra and Daemon Targaryen as they reunited for the first time in several years which led to a secondary sex scene. The third sequence followed Aemond Targaryen as he claimed Vhagar and struggled to ride the dragon.
Naturally, the darkness in these scenes had viewers recalling the Game of Thrones episode The Long Night which featured the Battle of Winterfell (and, incidentally, also directed by Sapochnik). The battle sequence was in the darkness although fire would later provide some lighting during the fights.
House of the Dragon Episode 7 is now available on HBO Max. House of the Dragon Episode 8 is titled The Lord of the Tides and will premiere on HBO on Sunday, October 9, 2022.
