House of the Dragon Episode 7: Driftmark Plays Host to a Tense Reunion and Dragon Theft

House of the Dragon Episode 7 has proven to be a thrilling ride from start to finish, proving that the show is even more fun to watch when the body count is low and the battle is all about wordplay. Driftmark just gave us one of the book's most exciting and defining moments. In addition, the Blacks and the Greens each got an edge against the other in the upcoming civil war.

In House of the Dragon Episode 7, the Targaryens headed for Driftmark to mourn for Laena Velaryon, who died in the previous episode after failing to deliver her third child. Although it is a grand reunion, the attendees are somber and awkward considering that some individuals have not seen each other for a long time. For instance, Otto Hightower has been reinstated as the Hand and Daemon Targaryen isn't pleased about it.

As night falls, everyone sets off to do their own thing. Rhaenyra Targaryen reunites with Daemon and they finally have sex. Meanwhile, Aemond Targaryen seeks out Vhagar and claims the dragon. The theft is witnessed by Baela and Rhaena Targaryen, who then tell their cousin Jacaerys.

The four children (Lucerys also joined his brother and cousins) confront Aemond who brags about claiming Vhagar and insults Baela, who in turn attacks him. The children get into a fight with the older Aemond threatening to kill Lucerys. Jacaerys produces a dagger that Luke uses to slash Aemond's eye.

The entire household is awakened and the children are questioned about the fight. Jacaerys and Lucerys reveal that Aemond called them bastards while Alicent Hightower demands justice and wants Luke's eye to be taken out as well. When King Viserys calls for the entire thing to be finished, Alicent grabs the king's dagger and attacks Rhaenyra.

In the end, Aemond assures his mother that losing his eye was worth it since he got a dragon in return. Otto later tells Alicent that the boy was right and that having Vhagar on their side was worth more than just an eye.

The Blacks also had their own edge in Driftmark as Rhaenyra and Daemon decide to get married to strengthen their alliance. To get Laenor out of the way, Daemon pays Laenor's lover Ser Qarl to kill him. Instead of killing the King consort, Qarl burns a body which looks like Laenor while the both of them flee Driftmark
