Frieren continues to be one of the most popular ongoing anime right now. Even with its popularity, surely no one expected Frieren’s Himmel to appear at the Louis Vuitton Men’s Fall-Winter 2024 show in Paris.
That doesn’t mean Louis Vuitton had a collab with Frieren though. Instead, Japanese contemporary artist Mr. cosplayed Himmel the Hero when he attended the event.
Mr. may not be the most well-known figure in the anime community, but he’s incredibly popular in the contemporary art scene. In the context of his works, his dressing up as Himmel makes total sense.
All About Mr., the Contemporary Art World’s Resident ‘Otaku’
To understand why Mr. decided to dress up as Himmel from Frieren in the Louis Vuitton show, it’s important to know more about his work.
Mr. is a Japanese contemporary artist who is best known for creating paintings and sculptures in a style that closely resembles the look of anime and manga.
More specifically, his works can be described as moe, with aesthetics that most anime fans should be familiar with.
His works are cutesy and colorful, though many of his pieces have a darker undercurrent. Some critics interpret this interplay as Mr. making commentaries on the sinister side of otaku culture.
Based on interviews and other interpretations, his works can also be seen through the lens of an otaku struggling with depressing thoughts and feelings.
Mr.’s art may be open to all sorts of interpretation, but what is undeniable is that he has become a big name in the contemporary art world.
For instance, he has collaborated with the likes of Pharrell in a 2019 exhibition. He has also been tapped in various merch collaborations with artists such as The Weeknd.
Given his renown, coupled with his friendship with Pharrell, Mr. was invited to the Louis Vuitton Men’s Fall-Winter 2024 show. After all, Pharrell became Louis Vuitton’s Creative Director in early 2023.

Mr. Arrives in Himmel Cosplay at the Louis Vuitton Fall-Winter 2024 Show
True to his self-proclaimed otaku identity, Mr. attended yesterday’s show in Paris in a full Himmel the Hero cosplay.
He shared his Himmel outfit on his personal Instagram account. There, he also mentioned that he wanted to add more to his costume like an elf tail, but he gave up.
Despite Mr.’s works having an anime aesthetic, it’s rare for him to share something related to an ongoing series. So, for fans of his who are wondering if he still watches anime, this confirms it.
