HBO Max's Wonder Twins Movie Casts Riverdale's KJ Apa and 1883's Isabel May in Titular Roles

A while ago, we learned that HBO Max and DC are developing a Wonder Twins live-action film which surprised a lot of fans as they didn't expect that the characters, which have been ridiculed for decades, will get to have a shot of having their own film. There are still some who are doubting that the project will come to fruition. However, a new update has now affirmed that they are officially moving forward as they have found who will play the titular heroes.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Riverdale star KJ Apa and 1883 star Isabel May have been cast to star in the Wonder Twins live-action film playing the titular duo. Black Adam co-writer Adam Sztykiel is attached to write and direct. Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey will serve as producers for the project. The film is set to be released on HBO Max.

In case you're not familiar, the Wonder Twins are a pair of alien siblings named Zan and Jayna. They became known for their appearances in the Hanna-Barbera animated series The All-New Super Friends Hour before they were incorporated into the larger DC Universe in the comics. The characters have become a source of jokes since they are known for saying the catchphrase "Wonder Twin power, activate!" before Jayna turns into any animal and Zan turns into many shapes of water. The characters previously appeared in live-action on an episode of Smallville.

Apa is currently known for playing Archie Andrews in the hit CW series Riverdale and he has also starred in films such as A Dog's Purpose, I Still Believe, and Songbird. This would be his biggest feature film to date. May starred in the Netflix series Alexa & Katie and the hit Paramount+ series 1883 as well as starred in films such as Run Hide Fight and I Want You Back.

Apa and May are definitely interesting choices to star in the film and they have proved in their previous roles that they now have what it takes to star in a DC film. This project could definitely bring them more to the spotlight. It is also a sign that they are officially moving forward as they have cast the roles and they might head into production later this year (perhaps when Apa is on a break from filming Riverdale). Given that it's for an HBO Max release, the filmmakers will have more freedom on what they want to do with the film and how bonkers they can go with the characters without worrying about its theatrical reception.
