The DC Universe has been continuously expanding on both the big screen and on television through HBO Max. Whether it's Black Adam and Blue Beetle in the movies or Peacemaker in television, the franchise is now growing beyond the well-known characters of the brand. Now, it looks like another DC movie project is in the works and it's not about the characters that you might be expecting.

The Hollywood Reporter has reported that HBO Max is currently developing a Wonder Twins live-action feature film based on the DC characters. Black Adam co-writer Adam Sztykiel is attached to write and direct. Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey will serve as producers for the project. The plot details are currently under wraps.

In case you're not familiar, the Wonder Twins are a pair of alien siblings named Zan and Jayna. They became known for their appearances in the Hanna-Barbera animated series The All-New Super Friends Hour before they were incorporated into the larger DC Universe in the comics. The characters have become a source of jokes since they are known for saying the catchphrase "Wonder Twin power, activate!" before Jayna turns into any animal and Zan turns into many shapes of water. The characters previously appeared in live-action on an episode of Smallville.

It may be surprising for some that the Wonder Twins are getting their live-action feature film treatment given the nature of the characters and their characteristics and personalities that may be goofy for some people. However, since it's going to be on HBO Max, the filmmakers might have more freedom to do the kind of film that they want and go all bonkers with the characters.

It's hard to tell right now what kind of film we might be getting from the project although we can speculate that it could be a superhero action-comedy since the characters have more comedic elements and there's no way that you can do them with a darker tone given their nature. It's very curious to see what direction they will take. But whatever it is, hopefully, it will be a fun movie that will have a significant contribution to the DC Universe.

Wonder Twins is still in early development so there's no release window yet for the film.
