The wizarding world of Harry Potter continues to be one of the most lucrative fantasy franchises there is and it's truly astonishing that a full decade after the original film series wrapped up, it still remains relevant. In fact, it was recently confirmed that HBO Max will be working on a spinoff series that could potentially bring back familiar faces from the series.
Now, in case you haven't heard yet, aside from the aforementioned project, a new Harry Potter role-playing game is set to hit stores soon. Called Hogwarts Legacy, the open-world video game is set in the 1800s where your character plays a student who holds the key to an ancient secret that threatens to tear the wizarding world apart.
The game is set for release next year and according to new reports, Hogwarts Legacy will allow players to create a "transgender" character. As per Bloomberg, users will have the liberty to create a character that has either a masculine or feminine voice regardless of what their body looks like. Apart from that, they'll also have the option to play as a witch or a wizard, no matter what previous choices they made.
It's worth noting that J.K. Rowling is not directly involved in the creation of the game so fans can rest assured that the "transphobic" author won't have any influence in the project. To those unaware, the acclaimed author has been heavily criticized for her transphobic remarks and it led to a lot of fans boycotting the franchise and her body of work.
However, considering she was pretty much responsible for the creation of the entire Harry Potter universe, chances are she'll still end up getting paid a good amount of royalty check despite the fact that she's not part of the project. Now, whether you'd like to support this new game or not would be up to you, of course.
Hogwarts Legacy is scheduled for release in 2022.
