Harrison Ford Addresses Why He Decided to Join the MCU

Some time ago, we learned that Hollywood icon Harrison Ford is joining the MCU to take over the role of Thunderbolt Ross in the upcoming films. He is filling in for the late William Hurt, who passed away last year and played the role for numerous projects before his death.

A lot of fans were surprised and also welcomed the Star Wars and Indiana Jones actor's decision to join the MCU and it made a lot of people wonder why he signed up for the role even though he is already 80 years old and has already made his turn in numerous successful movie franchises.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, where he recently had a profile, Ford was asked about why he decided to join the MCU. The actor gave a simple response as he said that it was different from anything that he said before and cited his fellow actors who have joined the franchise.

"I don’t know. I can’t explain myself to myself, I just work here. [laughs] I thought, 'Everybody else seems to be having a great time.' I watch all these terrific actors having a good time [in Marvel movies]. I like doing something different to what I’ve ever done and pleasing people with it. So I’ll try a piece of that," he explained.

Based on his comment, it sounds like Ford just wants to join the MCU party since it has become the number one franchise in Hollywood and see what it feels like to be part of the team. As he also mentioned, it is also different from his previous roles since we've never seen him do a comic book role.

The actor is expected to make his first appearance as Thunderbolt Ross in Captain America: New World Order which is set to begin filming at the end of March. He is also expected to appear in Thunderbolts although Marvel Studios has not confirmed his involvement there yet.

It is really exciting to see that Ford is now part of the franchise after seeing him in many legendary and iconic roles for decades and it is interesting to see what kind of take will he bring to the role of Thunderbolt Ross and whether it will be different from what Hurt did previously.
