Chris Evans' days as Captain America may be over but the Star-Spangled Man continues to be an influential figure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In case some of you have been living under a rock since the start of Phase Four, a fourth Captain America film is currently in the works with Anthony Mackie in the lead.

The upcoming sequel is set to begin filming this year but details surrounding it have remained scarce. Now, a new rumor is making the rounds online ahead of Captain America: New World Order's production start and it turns out that a familiar hero will resurface, potentially to aid Sam Wilson against the United States' new threat.

According to a report from The Cosmic Circus, Winter Soldier actor Sebastian Stan will become part of Captain America: New World Order but in a shocking turn of events, Sebastian's role in the upcoming MCU flick has reportedly been reduced.

The outlet claims that the tenured MCU star will only appear in one or two scenes in Captain America 4 before he moves into Thunderbolts ut the idea of him getting a more substantial role isn't completely out of the window, with the film's script said to have undergone rewrites late last year.

It's worth noting that Stan wasn't part of New World Order's D23 presentation last year and instead appeared as a member of the Thunderbolts cast. Still, it's quite baffling how Bucky Barnes will only play a minimal role in the next Captain America film, especially considering he and Sam Wilson have always been portrayed as a dynamic duo.

Captain America: New World Order is slated for theatrical release on May 3, 2024.
