Plot details about Loki remain scarce, but it is made known in the trailer and set photos that the Time Variance Authority would be heavily featured on the show. With 2012 Loki fresh off the failed invasion in New York and in possession of the tesseract, he'll likely create havoc as he jumps through time. Though the present Loki has made the transition from villain to hero, his 2012 version hasn't matured as such, with series star Gugu Mbatha-Raw teasing the character's arc.

In a recent interview with ET, Mbatha-Raw talked about the show's direction as well as teased what's to come in the show. "It goes to other places and you get to see that character mature in a different way," she says, referring to Loki. "It's going to be exciting for the fans to really see Tom [Hiddleston] and that character take the center of the story."

As mentioned, Loki basically shifted from villain to anti-hero and back again for the show. Maturing in a "different way" could go in different directions, either he'd have a completely different positive redemption or his character will develop into something unexpected.

The actress was asked about the show's general vibe as well, but Mbatha-Raw didn't go into detail, saying that it's "tricky" for her to reveal it. She also didn't reveal anything about the character she'll be playing.

Production for Loki was halted back in March due to the coronavirus pandemic, but recent reports say they'll resume filming in August. Mbatha-Raw is excited to go back to work and restart shooting for the Disney+ series though. "It's all still being figured out at the moment," she says. "But fingers crossed."

Loki series arrives on Disney+ in 2021.
