Amid the news that Ellen Pompeo will only have a limited appearance as Meredith in Grey’s Anatomy Season 19, ABC revealed the cast members returning as series regulars. Someone is also demoted to recurring status.

The long-running series may soon see its restart with the number of new actors who have joined the show as the new residents. That said, meet Grey’s Anatomy Season 19’s series regulars.

Grey’s Anatomy Season 19 Series Regulars

Grey’s Anatomy Season 19 has a number of series regulars, including the OGs Chandra Wilson (Bailey) and James Pickens, Jr. (Richard), TVLine noted.

Kevin McKidd and Kim Raver’s Owen and Teddy also join the list after ending Season 18 running from the law with their kids.

Kelly McCreary (Maggie) and Anthony Hill (Winston) will also be the new series regulars, along with Caterina Scorsone (Amelia), Camilla Luddington (Jo), Chris Carmack (Link), and Jake Borelli (Schmitt).

Elsewhere, from a series regular, Scott Speedman has been demoted to recurring status in Grey’s Anatomy Season 19 due to Pompeo’s limited appearance.

Considering his role as Nick plays as Meredith’s significant other, he may also appear only a few times this season.

According to reports, Pompeo may only be seen in eight episodes, less than half of the 20-23-episode season.

Pompeo’s co-stars seem to understand her decision to decrease her Grey’s Anatomy Season 19 appearance.

“Ellen has been the captain of this ship all these years, and she’s about to start producing,” Kevin McKidd, who plays the role of Owen Hunt, told E! News’ Daily Pop. “So, she needed to make room in her schedule for that.”

Aside from appearing in a “limited capacity,” she will also continue to narrate the new season.

She will be producing and starring in a new limited series on Hulu.

“The fact that she’s not leaving the show and is just scaling back a bit,” McKidd continued. “What I think is beautiful about it is it shows her love for the show still.”

In an interview with Extra, Jesse Williams agreed with McKidd’s comment.

“That woman has worked so hard all year, every year, for the last 20 years building that franchise globally,” he said. “Any time off she gets is well-earned.”

He also believed that the show had plans to fill the void Pompeo would leave in the series, including the new hires and series regulars.

“I’m sure they have something creative up their sleeve,” he continued. “We have these new amazing interns.”

He also teased that these new doctors would pump “new blood in the show.”

Grey’s Anatomy Season 19 will premiere on Thursday, October 6.
