Orphan Black: Echoes Has ‘Very Specific Relationship’ to Original Series, Director Teases

Orphan Black will return with its new spinoff Orphan Black: Echoes. As the new series will dig deeper into the “scientific manipulation of human existence,” will it have a connection to the original Tatiana Maslany show?

Executive producer and director John Fawcett revealed Orphan Black: Echoes would have a “very specific relationship” to the original series. That said, fans might witness a lot of Easter eggs and major spoilers.

Orphan Black: Echoes’ Connection to Orphan Black

The spinoff was officially ordered to a series earlier this year. It was previously announced that Krysten Ritter would lead and executive produce the show.

In an interview with Elle, Fawcett revealed that the Jessica Jones star’s casting reminded him of when he started the original series with Maslany.

"It's nice to be back, sort of at the beginning again,” he said. He also revealed that Orphan Black: Echoes would start filming on August 22.

Though he didn’t reveal if any of Maslany’s Leda clones would appear in the spinoff, he teased something big might happen that he didn’t want to share.

Meanwhile, AMC Studios and AMC Networks entertainment president Dan McDermott talked about Orphan Black and its upcoming spinoff.

"Orphan Black had a remarkable run on BBC America, attracting millions of dedicated and highly engaged fans, captivated by a smart and engrossing story and a star-making and Emmy-winning performance by Tatiana Maslany," he said, via ComicBook. "We can't wait to dive back in with Anna, John, and our partners at Boat Rocker and deliver an all-new version of this rich world that is worthy of the Clone Club."

Krysten Ritter to Star in Orphan Black: Echoes

Ritter surely has some big shoes to fill after Maslany got three Lead Actress Emmys nominations, winning once after playing the role of Sarah Manning in Orphan Black for four years.

According to AMC, via Entertainment Weekly, the Breaking Bad star will be playing the role of Lucy.

She’s described as a "woman with an unimaginable origin story, trying to find her place in the world."

However, it remains to be seen if she will only be playing one character or more.

So, what does Orphan Black: Echoes entail? It was described as,
