Gotham Will Have a Lot of Twists, Starting With Bruce’s Transformation

In the many Batman films that we've had, the Dark Knight has always been a big grown adult, one who takes care of his billionaire-dollar business while also taking care of crime in the shadows.

However, a new promo for Gotham has teased young Bruce Wayne's transformation into Gotham's protector by way of a Shaman's tutelage.

"I've been waiting a long time for you to begin your journey. People are afraid. And fear breeds hopelessness. Gotham needs something that you can provide."

Now the promo is just short at half a minute, but it contains a lot of interesting points, a lot of which hark back to the Batman mythology.

For one thing, we're brought back to a flashback of his parents' murder. There's also a reference to a lot of the villains that when may face. There's also the sequence of training scenes, a lot of which show martial arts and the use of throws—proto-batarang, anyone? But perhaps most telling is the tagline at the end, which simply says, "Heroes Rise."

While these ring a lot of bells that may point to the arrival of the cowl and the cape, we must remember that a mentor Shaman will supposedly be there to help unlock Bruce's potential. However, it was also hinted that he will be a sinister master as well. Whether or not Bruce's very Jerome-like look at the is any indication of that, we have yet to see.

Granted, Bruce actor David Mazouz did point out that his character will undergo some major insane changes in making a decision, so that's worth exploring in the upcoming episodes.

Gotham will return on Fox come April 24.
