Godzilla vs Kong Set for Massive $100M International Debut Ahead of HBO Max Premiere

The Titans are taking over the box office. Godzilla vs Kong is currently poised to haul in an impressive $100 million during its opening weekend overseas.

Deadline reports that Godzilla vs Kong has brought in an estimated $28 million in China on Saturday. That's a stronger haul compared to the $21.5 million the film brought in on Friday.

China isn't the only place where Godzilla vs Kong is enjoying a massive haul. The outlet estimates that the new MonsterVerse film will manage an amazing $100 million international box office haul ahead of its premiere in the US and on HBO Max.

It's not exactly a huge surprise that Godzilla vs Kong is doing so well. After all, the first two Godzilla films were major blockbusters. The same thing could be said about Kong's prequel movie Skull Island. With that in mind, the new Legendary film is expected to be a huge hit with fans.

Perhaps the interesting thing about Godzilla vs Kong's box office success is the fact that it is being released during the pandemic era. Nevertheless, the movie is proof that cinema will survive beyond COVID-19 with the help of two of the big-screens beloved Titans.

Godzilla vs Kong is directed by Adam Wingard and stars Alexander Skarsgård, Millie Bobby Brown, Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, Shun Oguri, Eiza González, Julian Dennison, Kyle Chandler, and Demián Bichir. The movie is currently screening internationally but is set to premiere in selected theaters in the US and on HBO Max on March 31.
