Promising news for God of War fans, as a live-action adaptation of the critically-acclaimed video game is officially being developed under the streaming service, Amazon Prime Video.
President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment Jim Ryan confirmed that a live-action series is being developed with Amazon Prime Video. Although the Sony CEO didn't much dive into the specifics of the upcoming series, it was previously reported that The Wheel of Time director, Rafe Judkins, was asked to helm the series together with The Expanse creators Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby. Aside from that, reports also claim that show will follow the Playstation video game titles and storyline, and Sony Pictures Television and Playstation Production are set to collaborate for the upcoming project. However, these thrilling details have not yet been disclosed by Sony.
First released in 2005, the Playstation video game was instantly welcomed by the fans which triumphantly resulted in the development of a trilogy. The console classic follows The God of War Kratos, as he goes against the entire Greek Pantheon, eager to murder every single one of them. Following the trilogy, another installment of God of War was released in 2018. But instead of going on a killing spree against Greek gods, Kratos goes against Norse Gods and Titans. Kratos is also now on his redemption arc, as the new installment also introduced the demigod's son, Atreus, who he's trying to protect.
The next installment of the game titled, God of War Ragnarok will reportedly premiere on September 30. The game was supposedly slated for 2021 but suffered a delay due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Alongside the God of War live-action series confirmation, Sony also confirmed another live-action adaptation of Horizon Zero Dawn, which will instead premiere on Netflix. For now, Sony has not yet announced a release date window for Prime Video’s upcoming God of War series.
