God of War Director Addresses Dwayne Johnson Casting Rumors

The role of Kratos is the most important casting decision in the God of War live-action series and Dwayne Johnson is clearly a fan favorite. But will the Black Adam star actually be playing the demigod in the planned Amazon Prime show?

God of War Director Weighs In On Dwayne Johnson Kratos Casting Rumors

Cory Barlog is one name that has always been associated with God of War, having served as lead animator on the first game and being deeply involved with the franchise.

Barlog is also set to serve as one of the executive producers on the series adaptation and he has addressed the possibility of Dwayne Johnson playing Kratos in the show.

The God of War Ragnarök co-director recently responded to a tweet purporting that the directors of the live-action adaptation are planning to cast Dwayne Johnson as Kratos.

"I have literally never heard anything about this," Barlog wrote.

It certainly sounds like Cory Barlog isn't particularly fond of the idea that Dwayne Johnson will be playing the demigod on the show. On the other hand, we're hoping that we'll get some updates on the series soon.

The God of War adaptation is still in development but Barlog already shared his hopes about the upcoming series. He previously gushed about HBO's The Last of Us and admitted he is a little jealous of how good it is.

"Truly amazing, humbling and inspiring work that fills me with joy + happiness for all who made it," Barlog wrote of The Last of Us.

"And no small amount of pressure, frustration and a wee bit of jealousy that it is SO F-CKING GOOD," he added.

Amazon's God of War show has been confirmed to adapt the Norse era, beginning with the events of the 2018 installment of the video game series.
