Girls’ Generation Yoona Reveals the Real Deal Behind Viral 2016 GIF with Lee Jong Suk

Girls’ Generation’s Yoona finally broke her silence over the so-called “moment” she had with Lee Jong Suk at the MBC Drama Awards in 2016. The two Big Mouth stars’ interaction was even turned into a GIF and went viral.

Yoona and Lee Jong Suk are currently working together for the new K-drama, Big Mouth, so their six-year-old GIF resurfaced. They also graced the cover of ELLE Korea and answered tough questions, like the story behind their sweet moment.

What Happened Between Yoona, Lee Jong Suk At the Awards Ceremony?

There’s a renewed interest in Yoona and Lee Jong Suk’s viral GIF. It all started when the Girls’ Generation member and Im Siwan presented two awards, a Daesang grand prize and a Top Excellence Award, Actor in a Miniseries, to the While You Were Sleeping star.

So when the now-31-year-old actress gave him his award, they unexpectedly spent a few seconds looking at each other. They even shared sweet smiles that made netizens go crazy.

Six years after that event, Yoona finally revealed what really happened back then, per Koreaboo. At the time, she said she was congratulating him and he caught her off guard when he told her she was beautiful.

“I said, ‘Congratulations,’ and he said, ‘You’re beautiful,’” she revealed.

They also had a photo together with some other people, taken 10 years ago.

“We hadn’t seen each other in a really long time. While I was thankful that he called me beautiful,” she continued. “I didn’t know how to reply because I said congratulations and then he said that I’m beautiful!”

Yoona added they acted the way they did because they were both nervous.

“We were quite nervous because it’s an award ceremony and we met after a long time, so he just said it as another way to say ‘hello,’” she explained. “But I noticed lots of people talking about this clip.”

Meanwhile, Yoona and Lee Jong Suk are now busy filming the new tvN K-drama Big Mouth. It’s a noir series about a third-rate lawyer who handles a murder case that turns him into a genius conman known as Big Mouse overnight.

So to survive and protect his family, he has to expose a huge conspiracy among the privileged upper classes.

Here, Lee Jong Suk will play the role of Park Chang Ho, the third-rate lawyer with only a 10% success rate. Alternatively, Yoona will portray the character of Go Mi Ho, a nurse and Park Chang Ho’s wife.

Talking about his character, the 32-year-old actor revealed Park Chang Ho is “very human-like.”

“I wanted to show a different side of me, like my inner weakness,” he said, via Soompi.

Alternatively, Yoona added her role gave her additional knowledge about people. “In the process of thinking about how Go Mi Ho of Big Mouth will cope with certain situations and feel certain emotions, my world expands,” she remarked.

Lee Jong Suk and Yoona’s cover photo on ELLE Korea will be out in March, while Big Mouth is set to release in the first half of this year.
