Toei Animation’s upcoming original anime Girls Band Cry finally revealed its Spring 24 release with a new trailer.
This new trailer’s release is also significant as it gives anime fans a proper look at the series. This is because it features actual clips from the show, highlighting the series’ 3DCG animation.
Girls Band Cry was initially announced in April, so the new trailer is a timely one as Toei seems keen on turning this series into a big IP. This is quite a change from the studio’s typical works.
Toei Animation’s Original Anime Project Gets New Trailer
Toei Animation is one of the oldest and most well-known anime studios. Many of its works are popular all over the world, including the likes of Dragon Ball, Slam Dunk, One Piece, and Sailor Moon.
Most of the studio’s best-known anime are based on massive media franchises. That doesn’t mean Toei only sticks to adapting popular manga though, as the studio has some interesting projects lined up.
Among these is Girls Band Cry, an upcoming original anime that follows a group of high school girls who form a band.

Toei previously shared two music videos as a teaser for this upcoming project. However, this latest trailer is the first actual look at the show, and it shows off Toei’s CGI animation tech.
Despite being known mostly for 2D animation, the studio has produced several CG works over the past year. There’s the Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero movie in 2022, followed by The First Slam Dunk earlier this year.

Girls Band Cry Anime Gets Spring 2024 Release Window
There aren’t a lot of details about Girls Band Cry, but what is confirmed is that it will be directed by Kazuo Sakai. He is a veteran animator who has worked on shows like Code Geass, Psycho-Pass, and Monster.
Meanwhile, its cast consists of rookie voice actresses. From the looks of it, the series will take a similar approach to idol anime where the voice cast members are also live music performers.
Given that this is an original project, coupled with it being the first anime in the music genre by Toei, this series might be worth checking out when it releases in Spring 2024.
For now, there’s no word yet on a specific release date for Girls Band Cry. There’s also no word yet on a streaming release partner outside of Japan.
