Ghost Rider, Terminator Roles Prepared Gabriel Luna for The Last of Us

There is little doubt that Gabriel Luna has played some truly memorable characters in the past. Not surprisingly, the former Agents of SHIELD star insists that his roles as Ghost Rider and Rev-9 in Terminator: Dark Fate had prepared him to play Tommy Miller in the live-action adaptation of The Last of Us.

Gabriel Luna recently spoke to CBR about his preparations for his role as Tommy in The Last of Us and he confirmed that working on projects with several action scenes helped him get ready for the new TV show.

"It ended up being a matter of refreshing many of the skills that I've acquired," Luna said. "All the combat training I've ever done -- and whether it be for Matador, for the Ghost Rider, for Terminator [Dark Fate] or any of those things. I once played a border guard [for] a picture called Transpecos. That experience was very important... to have somewhat of a military experience."

He then added that he did take special horseback riding lessons and he ended up bonding with the horse he worked with.

"I did take a trip out to my buddy's ranch in Colorado before we started shooting," Luna said. "I remembered some of the elements of the game and the riding was important. So I went out riding, I got a horse out there named Pepsi, who loves me. She's a sweetheart."

It's great to know that Gabriel Luna had all the tools he needed for his latest role. In addition to that, he made a new friend while preparing for The Last of Us. Needless to say, we can't wait to see him in action again soon.

The Last of Us also stars Pedro Pascal, Bella Ramsey, Merle Dandridge, Anna Torv, Nico Parker, Nick Offerman, Melanie Lynskey, and Storm Reid. The series will also feature video game actors Troy Baker, Jeffrey Pierce, and Ashley Johnson. The show premieres on HBO on January 15, 2023.
