George R.R. Martin Wants House of the Dragon to Beat Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power

2022 is an exciting year for literature as two major shows based on fantasy novels are set to premiere within weeks of each other. It has already been confirmed that the Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon will be released in August while Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is set to be broadcast in September. It's an exciting thought for George R.R. Martin who is hoping that the show based on his book Fire and Blood will defeat the Lord of the Rings prequel!

George R.R. Martin recently spoke to The Independent where the author addressed the competition between the two shows.

"I know a lot of articles, the minute the dates were announced, it's: 'Oh, the battle for fantasy supremacy. It's Rings of Power versus House of Dragon, who will win?' I don't know why they always have to do that," Martin said.

Not surprisingly, Martin was quick to point out that both shows deserve recognition but admitted that he is rooting for the HBO series, for obvious reasons.

"I hope both shows succeed. I'm competitive enough. I hope we succeed more," he stated. "If they win six Emmys, and I hope they do, I hope we win seven. But, nonetheless, it's good for fantasy. I love fantasy. I love science fiction."

We can't really blame Martin for hoping that the series that's based on his book will do better than The Rings of Power. Still, there is little doubt that both shows will be successful considering the hype right now and we can't wait to see these prequels later this year.

House of the Dragon will premiere on HBO on August 21, 2022. Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is scheduled to be broadcast on Amazon Prime on September 2, 2022.
