David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have been the butt of internet ridicule ever since the end of Game of Thrones, and they have since lost their Star Wars project with Lucasfilm. Too bad for D&D though, because it looks like HBO has dropped another long-gestating project from the duo.
According to TV Line, HBO has turned down Benioff and Weiss' show Confederate which focuses on an alternate reality US where the South won the Civil War and Slavery has grown into a modern institution. The project was said to have been in development since February 2018, and it has been followed by controversy, seeing that Benioff and Weiss are both white men making a series about Slavery.
If you ask me, the premise is actually pretty interesting, and I don't think Benioff and Weiss shouldn't be allowed to make the show because of the color of their skin. If anything, most of the negativity comes from how the pair ended Game of Thrones, and everyone is just adding on to reasons as to why the two shouldn't be allowed to work on anything again.
If anything, D&D still have their deal with Netflix, and seeing as to how the streaming service is always open for more original content, I think they could very well pick-up Confederate. If they don't want to take the project though, then maybe it just wasn't meant to be.
We have yet to find out what the next big project for Benioff and Weiss is, but hopefully they announce something soon.
