Game of Thrones Season 7 Teaser Possibly Harks Back to Fan Theory

Perhaps to ease the few good months' worth of wait for the next season of Game of Thrones, two new production clips from HBO has been released.

Both are just very short, and even if we have a glimpse of the new Queen of the Seven Kingdoms at her moodiest, it's the first clip that has fans speculating on whether or not an old fan theory will actually catch on. The video shows someone lifting Oathkeeper in the clip. There's no clue of who this person could be, but the presence and meaning of Oathkeeper in the seventh season may be more than just another sword.

According to Bustle, Oathkeeper is special in that it is just one of the few swords that are forged of Valyrian steel. It is even more uncommon in Westeros, and as far as its connection to the Stark family, it has been created from the greatsword Ice from Ned Stark.

After Game of Thrones season 7, the Stark family has started to take big strides, following what had been an unfortunate seven-season struggle. And with Jon Snow proving to be very much a Stark himself as the son of Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen, it's possible that it is hinting to a bigger role for the sword.

While Brienne of Tarth has been the main wielder, the mysterious hand seems far from what we know to be the lady-knight. And the way it's being wielded is almost careful and with extreme reverence, which could hint at the fact that it may be the Lightbringer.

That sword is actually a legendary one that used to be in the possession of the hero Azor Azai. The sword is supposedly one that would be drawn from the flames, and wielded against the darkness.

Since there are no confirmations yet of the Oathkeeper's role, the main fan theory is that either Jon Snow or Dany will take on the form of the hero Azor Ahai, since the prophecy involved drawing the sword from flames. Additionally, there's also a possibility that Azor Ahai will be a female during rebirth, so Dany is definitely not out of the question.

Of course, the clip could very well be from a behind-the-scenes capture with someone from the cast catching the error. But the fact that it was focused on the Oathkeeper is in itself intriguing.

Game of Thrones will be back on HBO this summer for its seventh season.
