Pokemon Go Dev Teases New Features & ‘Mons This Year

AR game Pokemon Go seems to be a continuously evolving and improving project. Even with the project already far from what it was already conceptualized at the first stages, it appears that developer Niantic Labs is gearing up to roll out quite a number of changes this year.

Nintendo Everything got a translation of the German report from Wired, which had confirmed a number of features planned to debut in the game. For one thing, the developer is focusing on the social aspect of playing together and gym battles.

The developer had admitted that the features were released prematurely, and the goal was to try and emulate the fun and social experience that Ingress was able to achieve. As for gym battles, big changes are coming:

"The gameplay in gym battles is very limited. They just don't work as well as we wish they would. We will overhaul this aspect of the game to ensure more teamwork and to give people a bigger incentive to receive the rewards from gym battles."

For Pokemon Go players who are more concerned with collecting ‘mons will also be happy to know that Niantic Labs is planning to feature the most requested Legendaries. These include the three elemental birds, Zapdos, Articuno, and Moltres, as well as Mew and Mewtwo. Without going into details, Niantic's John Hanke teased that fans will "certainly" see more of these Legendaries this year.

There's no word yet on when these features will arrive, but the Legendaries will surely have to arrive alongside a big occasion. Getting my own Zapdos as a Christmas present doesn't seem so bad.
