First Look at Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa in Power Rangers Reboot

Every superhero needs to face a powerfull villain, and Saban's Power Rangers are facing off with the iconic villain Rita Repulsa in the small-screen franchise's upcoming reboot.

The monster-unleashing villain will be played by Elizabeth Banks on the big screen. Today, we're getting a first look at Banks' costume via PEOPLE.

Of course, to go with the times, Rita now wears a sleeker and edgier green costume with gold embellishments.

Take a look:

Talking about her costume, Banks told PEOPLE:

It's definitely a modern and edgy re-imagining of the original Rita Repulsa. We wanted to give her a backstory that connects her to the new Rangers.

Aside from the evil schemes, the 42-year-old actress looks forward to "world domination" in playing Rita.

She said:

I've never played a villain before, let alone an alien warrior.

While it is Banks' first time to play the role of a villain, she's been a great character actress in her previous films, most notably her performance as Effie Trinket in The Hunger Games franchise. I'm pretty sure she's going to nail Rita Repulsa as well.

Movie Synopsis:

After 10,000 years of imprisonment, the evil sorceress Rita Repulsa and her loyal minions are freed when astronauts on a routine mission in space accidentally open her dumpster prison on the Moon. A team of "five teenagers with attitude" — Jason, Zack, Kimberly, Billy and Trini — receive superpowers beyond their wildest dreams so they can defend the Earth as the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.

Power Rangers hits theaters on March 24, 2017.
