First Avengers Project Details Teases Online Gameplay

On the heels of another Avengers: Infinity War trailer, gamers might be wondering about Square Enix's upcoming Avengers Project for consoles and PC. Fans are still excited about the game but the lack of news updates has been disappointing, though somewhat understandable. While the full details of the game still aren't clear, Marvel did tease certain aspects about it during a recent announcement and that might include online play.

When more developers were added to The Avengers Project, Marvel briefly added the following statement about the game:

"The Avengers project, featuring a completely new and original story, will introduce a universe gamers can play in for years to come. The project will be jammed pack with characters, environments, and iconic moments that will thrill Marvelites."

Introducing a universe that gamers can spend years definitely sounds like online play will be a big part of the game. Having a new and original story is also good to hear since Insomniac's Spider-Man PS4 game is benefitting from that. Should Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics play their hands right, we could be in for one hell of an Avengers game.

This isn't the first time Marvel has attempted to make an online game. Marvel Heroes was a free-to-play title that was quite popular with fans and debuted on consoles last year. Sadly, Gazillion and Marvel weren't able to renew their deal, so the game was canceled and no longer works on PC or console.

Square Enix's The Avengers Project has no release date but is supposedly coming out on PS4, PC, and Xbox One when it does.
