Finn Wolfhard Spills Tea On Stranger Things Spinoff

For a series that is as big as Stranger Things, it’s not just fans who are expected to advocate for a story continuation. As the series finale approaches, even the show's stars advocate that the story will be continued in the form of spinoffs. One of the series' big hits, Finn Wolfhard, revealed something funny about the construction of the said spin-off.

Despite confirming that a spin-off is in the works after the fifth season, the Duffers are tight-lipped about it as they have always been for the other information surrounding their show, but when Wolfhard pitched an idea for a spin-off, the showrunners were surprised at how much the young actor’s idea is parallel to theirs.

“We were on set filming Stranger Things 4 and… I was like if you guys are actually gonna do a spinoff it should be this, and I said it and the Duffers looked at each other and they looked at me and were like, ‘Can we talk to you for a second?’” Wolfhard narrated during his recent appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.

He continued, “And then they pulled me off and they were like, ‘That is the idea. Who told you?’ I was like, ‘No one.’ And they were like, ‘What do you mean, you just came up with it?’ And I was like, ‘Well no, I just thought that would be a cool way to expand [the franchise].’ They were like, ‘Well, don’t tell anyone.’”

According to the Stranger Things star, it is not just the spin-off that remains a mystery to him, but the upcoming season 5 as well. He shared that even the title of the first episode, The Crawl, was something that he came to know just recently.

The Duffer brothers confirmed in May that they are developing a spinoff that will be very different from the original show. “We do have an idea for a spinoff that we’re super excited about … but we haven’t told anyone the idea yet, much less written it,” they wrote in an emailed interview with Variety.

“We think everyone, including Netflix, will be surprised when they hear the concept, because it’s very, very different. But somehow Finn Wolfhard, who is one crazy smart kid, correctly guessed what it was going to be about. But aside from Finn, no one else knows!”

They also noted that the spin-off will not focus on Eleven, Hawkins Lab, or Dustin and Steve because their narratives have already been explored in the story. “There are still many more exciting stories to tell within the world of ‘Stranger Things’; new mysteries, new adventures, new unexpected heroes,” said the Duffers.

Fans will have to wait for the spin-off, as Season 5 is only likely to be released in 2024, at the earliest.
